Wouldn’t it be great if during our life (the sooner the better) we were afforded an opportunity to read a book that would steer us clear of making the same errors as our peers? Well, now there is—Get off Your Duff and Strut Your Stuff. Devouring the books chapters is the best way to avoid the silly, mind boggling, just plain unbelievable mistakes people make that keep them from getting the most out of every day they live.

Using humor, compassion, and good old fashioned horse sense, this book will lead the reader through the winding morass that traverses the old nitty gritty of life. Learning through life experiences, seeking knowledge and understanding, never making the same mistake twice, and emulating successful people are the keys to success.

Among other things, the reader will learn the necessity of educating himself, and that real knowledge isn’t always gleaned from the pages of a book, how to achieve a purpose for living, how to overcome stress, how to let go of past inequities, how to overcome failure, how laughter can be cathartic, how to make friends by oozing charisma, how to avoid loneliness, how physical beauty can be a detriment, a skosh about health, wealth and happiness, a minimal opinion of politics, religion  and--best of all-- how to find love and fulfillment in a less than perfect world.

My academic achievements include an AA degree in fire science from Santa Ana College and a lifetime (more decades than I care to admit) of making mistakes and watching others do the same. As I advanced through the ranks as a firefighter, engineer, captain and acting battalion chief, I observed how people from all walks of life reacted to disaster, heartbreak and loss, and how they dealt with the various situations in which they found themselves. This has given me a unique insight into the human condition. A lifetime of observing others and living through adversity, allows me to offer the reader examples of how I overcame major obstacles in my life. Using my life experiences I can help folks channel their lives in a positive way, thus easing the hardship and salving the pain of traveling The Old Nitty Gritty of Life.
